Question:

Perhaps a little offshoot of the subject, but the best of 1980-1990 had 6 albums and a boatload of b-sides to choose from.  If they by pass this upcoming album they have 3 albums to choose from (4 if you count Passangers which was advertised as NOT A U2 CD, and many U2 fans can’t stand the Passengers CD).  However if they do the same thing with the best of B-Sides, that could be really interesting as the 90’s haveing given us remixes, covers and a score of original songs.  That truly would be Intertesting. Anyway, being a best of, it’s more then likly going to dervie from radio play hits so here is my list in no order. 1. One 2. Mysterious Ways 3. The Fly 4. Whos Gonna Ride yor Wild Horses 5. Lemon 6. There  is one song that really gives me the pleasure that I have a cd player with memory. It get’s skipped automatically. It ain’t annoying, but it just sounds like A LOT LESS than the rest. The album I’m talking about is the Joshua Tree. And the worst WORST song is Red Hill Mining Town. In the old days when I didn’t have a cd player but only cassette I was fortunate enough to have 90 minutes casettes only. When I got the cd recorded one song had to be dropped. The person who recorded dropped  Red Hill. I am for ever grateful. Only 2 years later I decided to listen to the whole cd and I knew I hadn’t missed a thing!

In all these postings not one bad song is named. But hey, it’s easy. Just look on the back cover of War, and you can name about 7 bad songs. I still can’t believe some people would consider HMTMKMKM or Hawkmoon as bad songs. I shutter to think what they consider ‘half-decent’ or ‘amazing’. As for War, extremely harsh, don’t you think? I’ve always thought it was a fairly strong album except for Refugee (which was so out of character it seemed forced) and Red Light (which is God awful). — Hochachtungsvoll Erik

I think ‘War’ is bombastic, over produced. I only can appreciate NYD and DM. As for the rest of the songs, they cannot get through to me. But that’s only what I think (luckily). — Wim The Art Of Being Useless "640K ought to be enough for anybody." — Bill Gates, 1981 What a Visionary, that man!!! Apple Forever

Hey, I’m new to this NG, and I thought I would just post something that was posted to the aus.music NG.  In the last 12 years in Australia, there have been 12 songs debut at #1.  And there is only one band that have more than one song in this list.  Guess who? ;)  And the Best of 1980-1990 album keeps popping in and out of the top 40 albums as well.  This week it’s sitting at #50 after 64 weeks in the chart.  U2 rocks OZ! For anyone who is interested here is the full list – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –  The list of all the number debuts from the   last 12 years are listed below.     1991: THE FLY – U2     1993: I’D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE (BUT I WON’T DO THAT) – Meatloaf     1995: HOLD ME, THRILL ME, KISS ME, KILL ME – U2     1996: JESUS TO A CHILD – George Michael           UNTIL IT SLEEPS – Metallica           KILLING ME SOFTLY – Fugees     1997: FREAK – Silverchair           MMM BOP – Hanson     2000: AMERICAN PIE – Madonna           BYE BYE BYE – ‘N Sync           POISON – Bardot           WHO THE HELL ARE YOU – Madison Avenue

The lyrics as in the sheet music for Hold Me Thrill Me, pub’d in Guitar Magazine Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me You don’t know how you took it You just know what you got Oh lordy you were stealing from the thieves And you got caught In the headlights Of a stretch car You’re a star! Dressing like your sister Living like a tart You don’t know what you’re doin’ Babe, it must be art You’re a headache In a suitcase You’re a star! Oh no don’t be shy You don’t have to go blind HMTMKMKM You don’t know how you got here You just know you want out Believing in yourself Almost as much as you doubt You’re a big smash You wear it like a rash Star! Oh no don’t be shy It takes a crowd to cry HMTMKMKM They want you to be Jesus To go down on one knee But they want their money back If you’re alive at 33! And you’re turnin’ tricks With your crucifix You’re a star! Of course you don’t shine You don’t have to deny love HMTMKMKM Hope this helps…I stand by my source (appeared about a year ago, issue with Flea smooching another of the Chili Peppers)

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – The lyrics you posted, in the WORD document, if I might ask where did you get them?  I access to both singles (UK/Euro and US) and there are no lyrics, apart from this, my main point is .. I am wondering .. when you wrote "if you are alive honey at 33" … from just listening I had it figured as, "if you are alive honey, breathe!" or something to that effect. I am only asking to confirm that you got the lyrics from a reputable source that’s all… :) If someone replies, could you please do it by mail? I don’t have a lot of time to read this stuff .. I wish I did! Thanks Rich

First of all, I don’t understand what you want to say with "there are no lyrics". However, a friend of mine gave me the lyrics. I think he had taken them from a guitar tab. After having read the things you wrote, I carefully listened to the song, and I think my lyrics are right. Reading the whole text, I don’t think it could be "if you’re alive honey, breathe!". 33 is the age Jesus was when he died,  you know, and then I think my lyrics are right. If you want to talk, write a reply to this article, because I can’t receive any E-Mail. P.S. Excuse me for my English. By Giorgio Moscardi

It’s not just you!  I think U2 nicked "Children of the Revolution" for HMTMKMKM, either overtly as great fans or subconciously as, er, great fans.
