Question:
Hi Nicky!!!! How are you?
I’m good thanks!! Sorry for the delay in replying, but I’ve had a lot of things on my mind lately… I haven’t been paying too much attention to the NGs the last few days… except for the (6) posts with the transcription I typed from the Irish Independent article. And yes, my holidays (so to speak) went fantastic (thanks for remembering!), the main purpose being attending my sister-in-law’s wedding, and we had the time of our lives!
))
Well that’s what weddings are supposed to be about, glad to hear you had a great time!!….. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – OK, and now, the good news!!!! Woooohooooo!!!! I bought the "Walk On" single last Saturday!!!! (the one that has "Stuck…" acoustic and the American football video). The versions of both songs are amazing. Now I have a problem when playing the video… It’s as if the speed of my computer doesn’t relate to the speed of the video… I’m not into computers, so I don’t know if I’m using the right terms to explain this… The actual singing (Bono’s lips) doesn’t fit with the music, they are NOT synchronised. Sorry… Does this make sense? I don’t even understand myself while saying this ;o). The point is that the actual playing of the video is a little slow, and this makes it difficult to watch. Do you (or anyone in the NGs) know anything about this? Has anyone else experienced the same or is there a problem with my PC?
Yes i have experienced problems with "Enhansed CD’s" in the past, its most probably the CD’s fault and not your PC’s. Do’t worry bout it to much i would say! << Hi Andrea, Hope your holiday went well! Yes there seems to be an acoustic version of "Walk On" circulating, most probably due on the b-side of the next single. Triangle shaped cd case’s is not impossible, I have the "Tears for Fears" Woman in Chains CD single from 1989 and its shaped in a triangle sun. Yes it sounds weird but its made of cardboard and is quite collectable now. Hi Nicky!!!! How are you? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi Dean, First of all, I need to ask: is the live version acoustic or electric? I haven’t attended any U2 concert this year
(( and I haven’t heard any MP3 of it either, so I don’t know what it sounds like. Now here’s the second part of this post. Around a week ago I had the strangest dream I’ve dreamt in a long time… I dreamt I went into a record store and bought a "Walk On" single that came in a very weird triangular-shaped CD case… Triangular-shaped? I know it’s impossible! (that’s why it was a dream). Well, yes, and there were two triangular cases, as if a square CD case were split into two through its diagonal… One of them had written "Walk On, acoustic" in the inner sleeve also in a very unusual font, let’s say…, triangular-shaped letters? Like the one used by Def Leppard in the names of their records (at least in "Pyromania" they used it). That kind of font. The other triangular case…, I don’t know what it was for, but it definitely was part of the ‘artwork’… And I also remember that I had bought it on the day of its release. My impression was that I was the only one who knew about it since there was hardly anyone in the store buying it… Now tell me, is there such thing? A "Walk On" acoustic version, or was my dream a premonition? Will there be an acoustic version or is there one already? Please Dean tell me! Do you know anything about this or was it just a dream? Need to know urgently, thanks! — Andrea
Response:
Oooohhhhhhh Andrea…you’re a clairvoyant! ;o) Take note of your dreams…and pay particular attention to any reference to Australia and U2 if you don’t mind… ;o) CHEERS

To my knowledge there is no acoustic version of Walk On – but there is one of Stuck in a Moment, it appears on the Walk On single.
There is now surfacing an acoustic version of Walk On, it says so from the horses mouth at u2.com. Hey Andrea. The live version is electric – it’s kind of like the album version, but sounds a bit different, and the arrangement seems a bit different, and there is a different ending!!! Buy the single, it’s great. To my knowledge there is no acoustic version of Walk On – but there is one of Stuck in a Moment, it appears on the Walk On single. –Dean.

It would be a typical Lillywhite mix if it was him that mixed it. Check your credits again. He only had a hand in the video mix mate! The single mix was done by Nigel Godrich
Yes spot on, I wrote that before i bought the singles. I didn’t know there was going to be 2 remix’s of the single. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

3: Stay [Faraway, So Close] (Live from Toronto) – at the intro, Bono says something about going out live to a "very special policemen’s ball in London", whatever that is all about. A great Bono & Edge acoustic version of Stay.
The Policemans Ball was a charity comedy event shown live on UK TV and U2 performed Stay live during this event. From what I can remember it was a class version. ST

Single version- A typical Steve Lillywhite remix, more emphasis on the vocals and guitar and less on the rythium section (more faded into the background) The hallalucha (or how ever its spelt) that is played at the live shows is also on the single mix to. The intro is also quite different. Not sure which one i prefer at the moment, will be posting my review later today when i go out and buy it. Nicky – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I picked up the new Walk On singles yesterday – CD1, CD2 and the DVD. As usual, they are great – although I would have liked another audio track on CD1. Here’s the tracklisting for those who haven’t seen it yet: CD1: 1: Walk On (***new*** single version) – this is, IMO, way better than the album version. It’s very similar to the live version. 2: Stuck in a Moment (acoustic version) – this is awesome, it has been circulating around the ‘net for a while so many of you will have heard it already. 3: Stuck in a Moment (US Video) – actually I haven’t watched this yet! CD2: 1: Walk On (video version) – like the US single version, i.e. similar to the album version but with a little piece edited out. 2: Where the Streets have no Name (Live from Boston) – live from the Elevation Tour, baby. This is a really cool performance of Streets. Bono sings the line "I want to dance, dance, dance, in dirty rain… where the streets have no name". Like I said, it’s cool. 3: Stay [Faraway, So Close] (Live from Toronto) – at the intro, Bono says something about going out live to a "very special policemen’s ball in London", whatever that is all about. A great Bono & Edge acoustic version of Stay. DVD: 1: Walk On (new single version with lots of U2 photos in the background) – as above, but it sounds better on my DVD sound system! 2: 4 x 30-second clips from Elevation 2001 : U2 Live in Boston. These clips are WOWY, IWF, SIAM and The Fly. All they really do is whet your appetite for the real thing!!!! But they do that very well indeed. It would be nice if they included a WHOLE song from the DVD here. Like One, since that looks like being omitted from the concert-DVD. 3: Walk On (video) – This is the Brazilian video filmed by Jonas Akerlund, and it’s reasonably good, but nothing spectacular. Anyways, to summarise, if you’re a U2-freak like me (and most people on this NG), you’ll need to buy all 3 versions. But if not, get the CDs and skip the DVD. The single version of Walk On is a must-have. Stay safe tonight. –Dean.

Your mention of the policeman’s ball brought back memories of about 20 years when I used to listen to 2 records of The Secret Policeman’s Ball. I’ve since lost these recording in my travels but I have a vague recollection of them being live recordings of a fundraiser in London. In fact I think they turned me on to some artists at the time. I can’t really remember what was on them or if they still release these performances.
